Beyond Indonesia: Sumba

August 12, 2014

Traffic and pollution in Bali? I try other Island , here the best.Sumba is an island located in eastern Indonesia in South East Asia, part of the Lesser Sunda Islands group in the province of East Nusa Tenggara with a population of approximately 670,000 people. The island is known by some as “Sandalwood Island” as it is famous for is exportation of sandalwood. Sumba is unique and beautiful in many ways, starting with its rich cultural history. It is considered a magical place by many who visit its exotic picturesque landscapes and pristine beaches.

A unique destination, its physical characteristics bear hardly any resemblance to the other islands of Indonesia. Sumba had contact with Europe in 1522 and before then was inhabited by Australian and Polynesian people, however despite contact with the western world, Sumba is a land held onto many of its beautiful traditions. In Sumba they bury their dead in giant stones called megaliths, which has been a tradition from the bronze ages and has only survived on the island of Sumba. The Sumbanese speak several closely related and localised Austronesian languages with not much English spoken.

In Sumba they still have the tradition of donning hundreds of horse riders with large spears and playing a deadly game called Pasola to celebrate the rice-planting season. The game is played by throwing wooden spears at the opposing team while riding horses, and it requires a high level of skills. The cultural, religious and supernatural beliefs behind this game run deep, and the spilt blood is believed to be a sacrificial act to fertilize the land and is a part of a more complicated spiritual ritual. The largest town is Waingapu with about 50,000 inhabitants and there are a number of villages on the surrounding limestone hills.

The island has over 200 species of birds some of which only exist on this island and some are under increasing risk of extinction. Deforestationis an issue that makes it hard for these birds to survive and threatens the overall well-being of this island. While western Sumba is more ethnically and linguistically diverse with a richer and more fertile land, eastern Sumba has a more traditional history with a ritual hierarchy called Castes. There are a variety of languages spoken, and the most commonly used language is the Kambera language. Most of the population is Christian and up to 30% practice the animist Marapu religion, which traditionally believes in spirits and an eternal heaven. Sumba is one of the poorest islands in Indonesia and malaria and other diseases are very common here.

There is a high rate of infant mortality and access to water is a challenge. The streams and rivers dry up during the hot dry seasons and villagers, mainly women and children, have to trek many miles a day just to get access to water. There is access for tourists on this island as well, with the Puru Kambera beach, which is 26 kilometers from Waingapu. There is also Tarimbay Bay, about 5 hours drive from Waingapu and has 3 meters waves for surfers to ride on. Two hours away from Tamboloaka are white sandy beaches and cliffs at the Kodi, but its not recommended during the dangerous rainy season. Many places in Sumba have not changed since the Stone Age with some villages unchanged for centuries. A visit to the luxury resort in Sumba, Indonesia is truly a trip back in time. Immerse yourself in splendid isolation on this island paradise.

Bali Real Estate: Sharp Increase in property Purchase in Bali

October 05, 2012

A 2012 study on real estate and the property deals in Bali and area around it shows a sharp increase in property and land purchase in Bali. Bali has always been a popular choice among tourist, peoples from all around the globe choose Bali as their holiday destination because of its topography and rich unique culture. And now they are very much inclined to purchase a property here and it is really worth purchasing a property here for holiday house or permanent residence.

Now the question is why there is sudden rise in the Bali real estate business? And why it would be a wise decision to invest in property there?

Property development in Bali provides you the opportunity to make your own sanctuary. You have lots of options available, you can have villas, hill houses, mansion houses or even affordable houses. So you can see there are lots of options and you can choose depending upon your budget and need. If you are looking for simple and uncomplicated Balinese lifestyle, you can get very nice and low budget apartments starting from $80,000 to $135,000 for a two bedroom apartment. Cost of living in Bali is very low, according to current scenario a family of six people can live comfortably on approx. $2,500 per month.

If you like to have a villa with your own pool, beach house, garden, privacy and all, you just have to spend more. Bali Villa management provides you lots of options for executive and expensive villas and mansion houses. Seminyak is the most popular place for beach facing villas; the price may go above $750,000 for a well-equipped and large villa. Bali real estate is also focusing the development and sell of property around Seminyak. Over past few years lots of properties has been sold, foreigners are very much attracted to this place especially expats from Australia have settled along the lines.

Some of the popular real estate can be found on the small hills where you can enjoy the view of sparkling beach and soft wind wafting through the rice field on the hill.

The price of Bali real estate would depend upon mainly these three factors:

1.       Proximity to the main road and town.
2.       Location.
3.       The interesting space allocation.

If you are going to buy any property in Bali you should take some precautions, since there have been few incidents in past where foreigners have reported about cheating, they paid the money and still didn’t get the land or they didn’t get what they paid for. But now there have been lots of changes in laws, which have been modified recently to protect the foreigners for being cheated. You should know about the current rules of property acquisition in Bali

Although you are not alone and helpless there, real estate agents are very professional and friendly as well. They know the rules and regulations very well and can help you to get right property quickly. They know the in’s & out of the Bali real estate market and they will guide you to make right purchase. They will help you to complete all the legal proceedings for owning a property in that area. One you own a villa in Bali there the question raises that, what you will do with villa when you are not in Bali? you need to find a Bali luxury villa management and open your house to the tourist come in Bali all long the year.

Bali Surf Resort Holiday

August 22, 2012

There are many benefit to surfing in the life so we like to extend this benefit in the years, surfing is a surface water sport where we enjoy the natural elements.Accordind to Farley OR in the new study "Physiological demands of competitive surfing' the study was a performance analysis of surfing athletes during competitive surfing events in an attempt to inform the development of surfing-specific conditioning. Twelve nationally ranked surfers were fitted with heart rate (HR) monitors and global positioning system (GPS) units and videoed during the heats of 2 sanctioned competitions.

Means and SDs represented the centrality and spread of analyzed data. From the 32 videos analyzed, the greatest amount of time spent during surfing was paddling (54 ± 6.3% of the total time) (% TT). The remaining stationary represented 28 ± 6.9% TT, wave riding, and paddling for a wave represented only 8 ± 2% TT and 4 ± 1.5% TT, respectively. Surfers spent 61 ± 7% of the total paddling bouts and 64 ± 6.8% of total stationary bouts between 1 and 10 seconds. The average speed recorded via the GPS for all the subjects was 3.7 ± 0.6 km·h(-1), with an average maximum speed of 33.4 ± 6.5 km·h(-1) (45 km·h(-1) was the highest speed recorded).

The average distance covered was 1,605 ± 313 m. The mean HR during the surf competitions was 139 ± 11 b·min(-1) (64% HRmax), with a (mean) peak of 190 ± 12 b·min(-1) (87% HRmax). Sixty percent TT was spent between 56 and 74% of the age-predicted HR maximum (HRmax), 19% TT >46% HRmax, and approximately 3% TT >83% HRmax. Competitive surfing therefore involves intermittent high-intensity bouts of all out paddling intercalated with relatively short recovery periods and repeated bouts of low-intensity paddling, incorporating intermittent breath holding. Surfing-specific conditioning sessions should attempt to replicate such a profile.

Surfers in reality spend very little time to ride the waves or surfing but around 20% of the time they work to catch the wave. Bali is one of the four top Surfing destination in the worls and we start to see lot older surfer in the water waiting for a good wave or paddling to catch a wave.Surf passionate from all around the planet come to the Bali Surf Resort with a strong  motivation for a holiday full of surfing and nature. The best Surfing resort in Bali map is all located in the Bukit peninsula : Uluwatu, Balangan,Nusa Dua and Jimbaran.Surfing also requires a good place to stay and rest for paddling with more resistance in the next session. There is no secret if you want surf more waves you must do some daily surfing exercises, one of the best surfing workouts is practice all long you holiday and repeat the same thing over and over every day.

The Most Interesting Aspect of Bali

September 29, 2011

Whether it?s the slow pace of the Island or the vast contrasts you can experience over just a few kilometres, Bali seems to make you stop and put things into perspective. Just taking a stroll on the beach allows your mind to take a break as everywhere you look becomes a feast for your eyes. From a group of young locals playing a game of soccer to a stunning European model having a photo shoot in the gentle waves, Bali is truly a place of diversity and there is no where you can turn without seeing a smiling face.

The most interesting aspect of Bali is its ability to allow any person from any background to take hold of their passion and make it a reality. This Island allows you to explore your creativity, spirituality and even for those here to make some serious money; Bali is the land of opportunity. In the moss and vine covered hills of Ubud the air seems thick with not only the fresh smell of the rainforest but the urge to take a look at ones spiritual state. The small town is packed with healthy and alternative options for dining out and lost dog style posters are stapled to almost every pole advertising some sort of spiritual healing, retreat or detox deep in the hills. The local people in Ubud, like the rest of Bali, are a lively lot eager to sell you the must need items in their street side stalls, always asking questions and joking around with the tourists. There is a specific type of Westerner that seems to be drawn to Ubud, usually dressed in colourful, loose fitting clothing and sipping on green tea, it's an almost hippie like culture that has claimed this picturesque town.

Only a 40 minute drive down the hill and you enter another world entirely, a slightly faster paced town seen as the upmarket area of Bali. Welcome to Seminyak. A place where 5star resorts line the sun soaked beach and where you can step off the side walk into fashion boutiques and top class restaurants, although it seems no matter where you go its practically impossible to have a bad meal in Bali. Seminyak has an air of creativity and every second person you talk to is some sort of artist or designer, you feel compelled to whip out a sketch pad and lap up the creative juices flowing around you. Most expats also live close by and the high end bars and ocean front lounges are the place to be and get noticed.

A complete contrast again is Kuta, the tourism hotspot accommodating any and all budgets and activities from shopping, markets, surf schools and a water park to worldwide cuisine and the Bali night life. I could go on forever describing each and every corner of this fabulous Island as they all have something so special to offer, but the best way to find out is to come on over, hop on a scooter and explore every alley way and secret passage you find.Who knows, you could find your own corner of Bali no travel guide or information leaflet could ever lead you to. However you experience this magical Island it is sure to feed your mind body and soul, you will be hooked and I'm sure we will see you time and time again.

Another Aspect of the Balinese Culture

July 13, 2011

The first thing you notice when you arrive in Bali is the perfume in the air, a scent of incense cradles and carries you far way from the places that you used to know, every where you can see colors and flowers, hear charming melodies and meet sincere smiles, you can feel the essence of Bali Hindu culture. Unlike the majority of the Indonesian population is Muslim, Bali is 90% Hindu. The remaining 10% is made up of Balinese Muslims, Buddhists, Catholics and Protestants, ethnic groups who live in mutual respect. Many Balinese rituals are reflected in everyday life and can be seen in the numerous ceremonies and festivals. They honor the mountain, the land and sea Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. It coaxes the gods. It soothes the demons. Everything breathes religion on the island of a thousand temples.

Bali it’s not only religion and spiritualism. It’s the ideal holiday place that meets every body needs. The island is a perfect blend of cheap hotels and luxury villas, shopping and a traditional culture. It can be fun and seductive at the same time, perfect for those looking for “the real life” in Indonesia or just party till dawn in the beachside clubs at Kuta and trendy bars in Seminyak. If shopping is your first love you will find all you wish in Bali. Indonesians are artists in many fields: famous for silk and cotton clothing but also jewelry, wood and stone carving, leather bags and jackets and musical instruments, the island offers you a variety of unique items at unbeatable prices. The balinese massage is also a traditional art taught in this island for generations perfect to relax after a day of intense shopping in Legian street or a day at beach.

The island is also one of the surfers favorite destinations, from the rugged coastlines to the long sandy beaches, Bali attracts wave hunters from all over the world. There are many options of Bali beaches to be explored, the south of the island is a true paradise with amazing white beaches and famous waves, the calm seas of  the east coasts are ideal for families especially in the Nusa Dua area. In the northern region the famous black sand beach of Lovina is a place to see when you visit Bali, it’s perfect for those who enjoy scuba diving and snorkelling. If you want to take a break from the beaches, Bali has exclusive landscapes of hills and mountains, lush rice terraces and volcanoes, you can go traking in the jungle, rafting down the Ayung River or cycling and discover the stunning scenery of  Ubud, the artistic capital of the island where everything speaks of the ancient traditions.

Another aspect of the balinese culture is certainly the food, tasty and characterized by the use of many spices produced in the countryside. Rice and noodles are the base of most dishes, with meat, fish, seafood served fried or skewered. But you can also find good international food from the french croissants to spaghetti carbonara, those who miss home will not be disappointed! Bali is defined as “the perfect island” for the mild climate, or “the island of the gods” for numerous temples. From outdoor activities to beach relaxation, Bali is now one of the favorite tourist destinations in Asia. The island has a lot to offer travelers in search of adventure. It’s the perfect place to escape from the West, from the bondage of body and let the senses feel the natural Bali spirit.
